The importance of early detection

Early detection means earlier treatment, fewer complications and less risk of passing an infection on.

Educational information, not medical advice. If you have symptoms, are pregnant, or are worried about a recent exposure, contact a GP, pharmacist or NHS sexual health clinic. In an emergency call 999; for urgent advice call NHS 111.

CareFree Kits is a private service and is not affiliated with or operated by the NHS.

Protecting your health

Some STIs can cause complications if left untreated for a long time. For example, the NHS notes that untreated chlamydia and gonorrhoea can lead to pelvic inflammatory disease, and untreated syphilis can affect the heart, brain and nerves years later.

Protecting partners

Knowing your status lets you take steps to avoid passing an infection on and to let recent partners know they should get tested. Sexual health clinics can help with partner notification, including anonymously.

A calm, proactive approach

Testing is a normal part of looking after your health. Whichever route you choose, clinic, GP or home screening, the important thing is to follow up any positive or uncertain result with a healthcare professional.
