Gonorrhoea Test

Before you start

You will need:

  • Your Gonorrhoea test kit
  • The swab provided
  • A timer or your phone

Before starting:

  • Check the expiry date.
  • Do not use the test if the package is damaged or already open.
  • Keep the kit between 4–30°C.
  • Do not freeze the kit.
  • Keep it away from direct light.
  • Wash and dry your hands.

Step 1 — Collect your sample

Female

  • Use the supplied swab.
  • Carefully insert the swab into the vagina, approximately 1–1.5 cm.
  • Rotate the swab several times.
  • Keep it in place for 5–10 seconds.
  • Remove the swab.

Male

  • Do not urinate for at least 2 hours before taking the sample.
  • Use the supplied swab.
  • Carefully insert the swab into the urethra (the tube at the tip of the penis that carries urine), approximately 2–4 cm.
  • Rotate the swab several times.
  • Keep it in place for 5–10 seconds.
  • Remove the swab.
  • Collect the sample carefully. If not enough of the sample is collected, the test may incorrectly show a negative result.
  • If you cannot test the sample straight away, keep it refrigerated at 2–8°C and use it within 24–72 hours.

Step 2 — Prepare your sample

  • Make sure the test and sample are at room temperature.
  • Put the swab into the extraction tube.
  • Add 8 drops of Solution A (the tube with the blue tip).
  • Squeeze the tube around the swab and rotate the swab 15 times.
  • Leave it for 2 minutes.
  • Add 8 drops of Solution B (the tube with the purple tip).
  • Squeeze the tube around the swab and rotate the swab 15 times.
  • Leave it for 1 minute.
  • Squeeze the swab against the side of the tube.
  • Remove and throw the swab away.
  • Attach the dropper tip.

Step 3 — Take the test

  • Open the test cassette.
  • Place it flat on a clean surface.
  • Turn the tube upside down.
  • Add 3 drops into the sample area.
  • Start your timer.

Step 4 — Read your result

  • Read your result at 15 minutes.

Your result (as shown in the instructions)

This is a customer-generated record of a self-reported screening result. It is not a clinically verified medical certificate or a formal diagnosis. CareFree Kits has not seen or verified this result.

What to do next

If positive, contact a GP or sexual health clinic for further assessment, testing and treatment advice. Do not use this result to choose treatment yourself. If negative but concerned, seek clinical testing. If the control line is absent, repeat using a new kit; ask for advice about unclear results.

A negative result does not rule out gonorrhoea. This product should not be used to claim that infection at other body sites has been excluded. A sexual health clinic can advise on site-specific testing, symptoms and exposures.

In an emergency, call 999.

Important information

Important information for all tests.

  • Check the expiry date. Never use a test that is expired, damaged or already open.
  • Only use the swab and items supplied with your kit.
  • Use a timer and read your result at the exact time stated. Never read it late.
  • No C line means the test is invalid. Repeat it with a new kit.
  • A negative result does not always rule out infection. Testing too soon, or collecting too little sample, can affect it.
  • A positive or reactive result should always be followed up with a healthcare professional.
  • Still have symptoms or worried about a recent exposure? Speak to a healthcare professional, even if your result is negative.
  • Not sure what your result shows? Do not guess. Repeat the test with a new kit or speak to a healthcare professional.
  • Keep test kits away from children and pets, and dispose of used items safely.
  • CareFree Kits provides testing products and general information. Our tests do not replace professional medical advice or diagnosis.
